Of teenage hormones

Last week Gurjeet and I were at 1U, and we stopped at Ms Read Cafe for tea and was served by a cute teenage boy. A while later, three young girls came in for takeaway, and they were standing at the counter looking rather bored.

Until... our cute waiter stepped into view, and their eyes sprang to life. Suddenly, they didn't seem quite ready to leave the cafe, but after paying for their takeaway, you could literally see their brains churning out excuses to stay a bit longer.

They took a step towards the exit, looked back at our cute waiter who was obviously oblivious to them, whispered to each other, and a few seconds later retracted their step. Stop, whispered, looked at our cute waiter, took another step forward to the exit, paused, whispered, looked at our cute waiter, obviously hoping he would somehow catch sight of them and fall in love with one of them.

And all the while, both Gurjeet and I were looking at the girls and laughing, but not laughing at them, but more at ourselves! Goodness, were we like that as well, when we were teenagers?!?

After the girls finally decided they weren't going to score... ok, wait, that's what teenage boys would think. After the girls finally decided they weren't going to make him fall in love with one of them in the next 10 minutes, they decided to leave.

And then our waiter made a mistake with our order and he flashed a 100 mega-watt smile with dimples winking at us, for a second, the teenager in us surged up (ok, so maybe just me). And in that split second, it was like a flash of trepidation that I could be a sugar-mamah in the making!

Ooo... he could mow my lawn anytime he wants (if I ever get one).
